WALK IN THE LIGHT OF GOD (PART 2 OF 2)

5th FEBRUARY 2020

“If we say we have fellowship with him and yet keep on walking in the darkness, we are lying and not practicing the truth. But if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin” –   1 John 1:6-7

In opening today’s devotional, I like to draw attention to a statement made by Dr. Jack Frasure Hyles to the effect that; “God’s mighty power comes when God’s people learn to walk with God.”  As you may probably recollect, Pastor Jack Frasure Hyles was the leading figure in the Independent Baptist movement; a powerful speaker of the Word and a prolific writer on issues relating to the Word. I have no doubt in my mind that God’s power is truly released upon our lives when we choose to go by His path. Beloved, from experience, I know that when you are constantly walking with God, you will understand Him better. You will also be quick to know His heart. That means you will not pray for those things that are outside His plans and will for your life. He will be fast to respond to your request for the things He had ordained for you before the beginning of the world. Walking with God is not just a time in the prayer closet or church attendance.  Those are good, but will not take us to the final destination with God without a deliberate sacrifice on our path to forsake the world, and truly follow the footsteps of Jesus. By this, I am saying that to walk with God in His light is a lifestyle that we can only obtain by imitating Christ. It is a lifestyle of loving God, and loving our neighbors same time; a lifestyle of cheerful and deliberate giving to those who truly need our help. A lifestyle of forgiveness, extreme tolerance, and mutual respect; a lifestyle of continuous efforts to be like Jesus and forsaking lusts, avarice, pride, envy and the likes. In 1 John 2:6, the scripture says; “The one who says he resides in God ought himself to walk just as Jesus walked”. Therefore, beloved, walking with God is not merely living by rules and regulations or making daily resolutions that we quickly break. It is much more than that. To walk with God, we must; ONE- live by faith; TWO – live in total obedience to God, THREE – agree with God in all His ways, for it is not God who will agree with our plans, rather, we are to flow with His plan and live by His rules. Jesus was known for those three things.  Remember, the righteous must live by faith, rather than his personal feelings. God begins to manifest signs and wonders through us when we truly submit to Him by Faith and obedience, doing only that which is pleasing to Him. The word of God is telling us today to walk in the light of Christ by submitting to Jesus and doing only that which pleases God.  In addition to your daily spiritual practices, always do that which is pleasing to God, obey His commands, live by faith and imitate Christ in love and holiness. Only then will God release His amazing power over your life.

 PRAYER

Father in the name of Jesus Christ, I resolve to walk with you today and to do only that which is pleasing to you. Lord, I decree nothing shall derail me henceforth from obedience to your commands, and total submission by Faith. Therefore, I bear your testimony all the days of my life. AMEN
