A SAFE JOURNEY

24th OCTOBER 2022

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.  He will not let your foot slip, he who watches over you will not slumber; Indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you; the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm; He will watch over your life; The Lord will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore” – Psalm 121:1-8

Every human being on earth is on a pilgrimage on earth. Therefore, we are all pilgrims on earth. To make our journey easier, we have subscribed to tenets and religious beliefs of all kinds. A Christian pilgrim’s journey on earth towards the new Jerusalem is difficult, turbulent, and, at times, dangerous. But the journey becomes safer under the footsteps of the one who makes a promise of safety to us, and who gives us the power to overcome. For many reasons, we are distracted from the path of eternal life; The chief reason being our vulnerability in the presence of the forces at play in the universe, But our celestial ascent to the new Jerusalem becomes safer and peaceful when we are able to bury our adversities and weaknesses at the foot of the Holy Cross, and thereby seizing the victory of the cross which is given to every believer on the path of salvation. That victory is immortality and power over all things!

The various mountains and hills that come to view as we journey through life towards the new Jerusalem come with several drawbacks and anxiety associated with the treachery that we experience on the journey. At some point in our life, each Christian comes to several moments when he would begin to wonder whether the LORD sees, whether he knows your suffering, and whether he cares. God is definitely at work in the worst of times! He is at work doing a thousand things no one can see but him.

Today’s word reminds us that God is not simply mighty but compassionate and intimately involved with every step that we take in life. He is not a distant Creator, but the LORD who cares. That is why, although we shall be confronted with tests and trials, suffering, and circumstances that we have not experienced before, protection by God is assured. That happens for the following reasons:

·        God will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.

·        God will neither slumber nor sleep.

·        The LORD is your keeper.

The point of today’s word IS NOT that we will not have problems in life; the point is that we will be kept safe as we go through them. There is no moment of exception where God fails to care for his Children—day and night, going out and coming in, all the time and forevermore. Take note also that; He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6).

Consequently, beloved, remember that based on today’s word, and the entirety of the scripture, you are going to make it in life in all that you choose to do, provided you diligently follow God in obedience. Furthermore, you will make it to the celestial city of the new Jerusalem if you follow in the footsteps of Jesus. However, the story will be different if you stubbornly persist in continuing in unrepentance. There is no assurance in disobedience! Therefore, beloved, this is the time to abandon a high estimation of yourself. Stop your low estimation of God and his holiness. Repent from your sin and fly to the cross to seize the victory that Jesus already won for you.

PRAYER

Father in the name of Jesus Christ, I thank you for Grace and the gift of expanded faith. I thank you for the victory of the cross, which takes away all infirmities, afflictions, anxiety and the power of death from my life. I live in fulfilment of your promises, and my journey through life is anchored on thy grace. Thank you, Lord, in Jesus mighty name. AMEN.
