ACHIEVING YOUR INNER PEACE

17th JANUARY 2022

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid” – John 14:27

These days, the quest for inner peace and peace in our environment has been on the rise. That is due to so much insecurity and disharmony across the world nowadays. Therefore, we need inner peace to achieve our individual and collective endeavours. Peace goes to the roots of human existence, as well as to the foundation of all things. Without peace of mind, we can do nothing!

There are many reasons we seem to lose our inner peace:

  • Fear and anxiety about meeting up with earthly challenges.
  • Ill-health.
  • Suffocating debts.
  • Inability to please others.
  • Quarrels’ and unforgiveness.
  • Family worries regarding spouses and children.
  • Cooping with stress and pressure generally.

Without a measure of inner peace, we can do nothing. Unfortunately, the world does not give us inner peace. Jesus Christ says, ‘I give you peace, not like the world gives to you. Therefore, our peace rests with God, for He is the God of peace. Further to that, the bible says, “God keeps him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on God because he trusts in the Lord” (Isaiah 26:3)

We need inner peace to live a harmonious and prosperous life. By inner peace, I mean communion with God through the Holy Spirit, in such a way that we can put a check on our emotions, thereby letting go of anger, worry, and fear. However, doing that is difficult. How do we attain inner peace? Check out the four ways below:

Some ways to find inner peace for yourself are:

1. Focus on the eternal. It’s hard to feel at peace when you’re focused only on short-term worries – Romans 8:6.

2. Let go of what you can’t control. When something outside your control takes away your peace, it’s tempting to feel hopeless or angry. – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

3. Forgive others. – Ephesians 4:31-32

4. Repent and rely on Christ. – 2 Chronicles 30:9b

PRAYER

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, please grant me peace of mind and calm my troubled heart. Father, silence the raging sea in my life and give me peace. AMEN
