BE FLEXIBLE IN YOUR DESIRES (PART 1 OF 2)

16th JULY 2020

And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work – 2 Corinthians 9:8

Flexibility is a key aspect of spirituality. That is correct to the extent that nothing is static in the spiritual realm. Everything in the spirit realm is in continuous motion.  So it is on earth; everything is going through changes all the time. As the world goes through changes, so also is our desire changing so as to make room for the changes taking place in the world. The changes on earth and in the spiritual world will continue as long as God exists. What then is the importance of this lesson?  This lesson is to teach us that God is not limited in His physical expression. This means that God’s creative power is not delimited in its power to create anything for us. The reason we fail to manifest what we want is partly due to the fact that we often ask the Lord for the things that are not relevant to us. Or better still, we request the things that may not, at that point in time assist us in the fulfillment of our mission in life. Therefore, God might not do those things for us simply because we have asked Him to do them for us. God would rather vet our requests, and instead, do for us the things that would address and satisfy our peculiar nature in accordance with the changes happening around us. When that happens, it does not mean that God has not answered our prayer; it only means that the will of God has been done (Ref: 1 John 5:14). The will of God and His providence are interwoven with our desires; this is why God’s providence would run according to His will. If we ask God for anything, He will surely respond in accordance with His will, not our own will; and when God gives, He adds no sorrow to it. The mistake that some people make is to become obsessed with their desires and to pursue the same violently and selfishly without regard to the will of God for them. The fact that we got what we wanted does not mean that God gave it to us. Remember, God has already given us the power to pick and choose as we desire, but He expects us to exercise positive discretion in our choices. If we make choices on our own outside the will of God, then we shall be responsible for the outcome. The word of God today makes us understand the fact that, although God has the power to do all things for us, he may not grant us all that we prayed for if those things will not make us abound in every good work.

PRAYER

Father in the name of Jesus Christ let thy will be done in my life so that I may abound in good works at all times. Thank you, father. AMEN.
