BE OPEN TO WISE COUNSEL

24th MAY 2022

For by wise guidance, you can wage your war, and in abundance of counsellors, there is victory. – Proverbs 24:6

Benjamin Franklin once said, “Those who cannot be counselled cannot be helped”. That means that we should be open to good counsel to become victorious over the problems of life. The statement further implies that we should be open to receiving God’s guidance through the wise counsel of others. In today’s scripture, we are reminded that wise counsel gives the power to resist evil and overcome problems. A famous saying goes, “A shared problem is either completely or half solved”. But some do not like sharing their problems with others. That is either due to not being sure of the quality of counsel they might receive or having an erroneous belief that they have mastery of their problems. As children of God, we ought to take God into confidence at all times and believe that God would not leave us or forsake us in critical situations. The following keys will be helpful when seeking solutions to problems:

1.     Seek the face of God regarding the issue at stake, and request that He reveals the way forward to you.

2.     Seek wise counsel;

3.     Test every spirit to ensure that what you heard is from God and, therefore, good suggestions.

4.     Not everyone who holds out himself as offering to counsel has a wise counsel to give. Some are out to destroy. The scripture says, “By their fruits, ye shall know them” (Matthew 7:16). This means that you should consider the opinion of counsellors side by side with their character and attitude to life. Therefore, it follows that those without reputation and badly behaved persons are very likely not to give good and wise counsel. Commit your challenges to the hands of God; He will indeed direct you on the path of wise counselling.

How do we recognize godly advice?

1.     Godly advice obeys the laws of the land – Romans 13:1

2.     Godly advice does not ask you to violate the rights of others. (Galatians 6:2).

3.     Godly counsel will not violate moral laws.

4.     Wise counsel aligns with the Word of God. The Bible is living and active (Hebrews 4:12).

 PRAYER

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I commit my special situation into your hands right now (Mention your difficulties), and I ask for victory against all adverse conditions and problems. Lord, I decree I shall not be a victim of wrong counselling. Today, I stand to receive your grace, your power and thy spirit to move ahead in difficult moments. AMEN
