For the Lord will not forsake His people for His name’s sake, because it has pleased the Lord to make you a people for Himself.” - I Samuel 12:22
God has a reputation and that is why His promises will never fail. All that God does is “for His name sake”. That is, for what and for who He is. This is one good reason we should not be afraid of believing in God. My conviction in life is that; if God says it, then He will do it, not minding the situation or obstacles that may come up against His decision. It’s difficult to recount cases where God made promises in the scriptures and did not fulfill them; rather, if not for any reason, He would do everything He promised for His name sake. For His name sake, God works in two ways; one, He would always fulfill every of His promise not withstanding any obstacle. Two, God would not support any act which goes against His nature. It follows therefore that, because God is love, He would not subscribe to any evil. Also, because God is merciful, He would not unleash His anger upon you – He would hold His peace for His name sake.
The word of God is telling us today that God has already taken us to be His children, and therefore would not do anything against His nature, or His promises when dealing with us. God would rather have us victorious against the devil rather than get defeated; joyous instead of sad, gaining eternal life, instead of death. In 1 John 2:12, scriptures says; “Your sins are forgiven for His name’s sake”. Interestingly, you will recall that God loved us so much that when we accepted Christ as Lord and Savior, He wrote our name in the Lamb’s book of Life, He sealed us until the day of redemption; we all became one in Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit stands witness to our salvation. This is why Jesus Christ says in Mark 10:29, “verily I say unto you, there is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or fathers, or mother, or wife, or children, or land for my sake, and the gospel that will not gain it back on the last day.” This is amazing! Now, do you believe that God would NOT change or go back on any of His promises for His name sake? All that is expected of us is to live out the reputation of God, by believing in His word and His promises. If we believe, we are greatly benefitted. Not otherwise. Starting from today, make up your mind to believe in God’s promises, and receive the gift of eternal life – A life of fulfillment here on earth, and then, in the hereafter in heaven.
