For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope - Jeremiah 29:11
It is not certain to so many people how they could become that person they actually want to become; that rich, renounced and greatly endowed personality! It is quite interesting to see how fate has played some tricks in the lives of so many. While some have made it to the top, others do not seem to be that lucky. So many are confused and wondered if they would ever make it to the top before their close here on earth. In the midst of these cacophonies, some have become envious of others, who made it, and wish that they were in those positions. Truly I tell you, there is nothing anyone has achieved that should make you fret or envious. There is nothing special about anyone’s achievement! Rather, what is special is you! God is waiting patiently for you to take your rightful place as well!
We have a lot of puzzles to solve when looking to sort out the will of God for each of us. Notwithstanding our fears and anxiety, one thing is very clear – God has a wonderful plan for each of us! Today’s scripture echoes back to us, God’s word to Jeremiah some three thousand years ago. God is saying this morning that His plan for you is for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Praise God! Today, I want you take note of these three things:
1. God’s plan for you is personal. When Saul was newly converted, he asked God: “What shall I do?” Did Saul’s conversion happen by chance? Acts 9:4 tells us that it certainly was “according to plan” – God’s plan and not by chance. Therefore, there is no one else in the world like you, and therefore God’s plan for you is unique and personal – just for you! He has a purpose to fulfill in and with your life which cannot be fulfilled in and with the life of any other person.
2. God’s plan for you is a perfect plan. In Romans 12:2 (which should only be read in conjunction with Romans 12:1), we are told that the will of God, or God’s plan and purpose in the lives of His children, is “his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Therefore, do NOT let others seemingly achievements become a parameter to judge your own progress in life. Your mission in life is different; your spiritual and physical configurations are unique and different – Your DNA is different! Therefore, your elevation and achievement must be on a different pedestal! It will also interest you to note here that, even when people are on the same pedestal in life, they are certainly fulfilling different missions; representing different interests. For you, that may not even be where you should be!
3. God’s plan for you is a practical one. It is workable and it is thoroughly related to everyday living and service. It is not a plan which only sounds “good, pleasing and perfect” on paper, but must be realizable. It is usually never late to achieve God’s plan, and it will surely come in your lifetime.
Starting from today, do not look at others and what they seems to have achieved; it pleases God to put them where they are. Rather, look at God and open to receive His plan for you. Do not focus on others and expect to be where they are; when you do that, you lose focus from what God truly desires for your life. What is important is that you are able to discover God’s plan and purpose for your life.
