OVERCOMING CURSES AND NEGATIVE INFLUENCES

3rd AUGUST 2022

“The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death” – Romans 8:2

It is prevalent these days to hear of people possessed by generational curses and negative influences and the need to undertake some spiritual deliverance or a spiritual cleansing bath to remove the curses. There is no doubt that anyone can be under some curses or negative forces. The reasons for that are multidimensional and may include, but are not limited to, the following reasons:

·        Sin: especially a hidden sin which is not confessed to or forgiven by God. There is no doubt that God punishes us for our sins. We, therefore, must always confess our sins and get forgiveness from God. The soul that sins must die, but God is merciful and just enough to forgive us if we confess our sin. The result of disobedience is sin. Sin takes us back in terms of receiving grace from God. In some extreme cases, sin also leads to death. But if we obey and keep to God’s commandments, He will rain his blessings upon us (Deuteronomy 28:1-68; 1John 1: 9)

·        Subscribing to a sinful disposition or accepting to be part of a process with specific negative results: Knowingly or unknowingly, we continue to subscribe to tenets and beliefs, which largely continue to shape our lives positively or negatively. There is a law of cause and effect that rules the universe. Whatever we do, we set a law into motion! The consequences of doing or saying something usually reverberate or return to us threefold. The scripture says, as you sow, so you reap. In his Christian New Testament Epistle to the Galatians, Paul the Apostle writes: “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reaps.” He goes on to instruct the Galatians to “sow to please the spirit” rather than the flesh, indicating that spiritual life will result in a reward (Galatians 6:7)

·        Karmic tie: This happens when, for some reasons beyond our understanding, we connect to another who is bound to suffer some consequences, thereby falling into the trap of jointly suffering with that person. This can happen in many relationships, such as marriage and friendship, or even being born into a particular family or resident in a specific community. When God visits the father’s sin upon the son, it is not to punish the sons for their father’s sins from the first to the fourth generation. However, by being part of that family, the sons establish a link with the punishment reserved for their fathers. (Numbers 14:18).

Being in a bad situation with another can come about due to bad mistakes or poor judgement. Perhaps, this is why the psalmist wants us to pray ourselves out of a bad situation. (Psalm 28: 3- 4) But generally, our God is and will not punish one for the sin of another. Everyone who sins must take responsibility for his action (Ezekiel 18:20)

How then do we free ourselves from these curses and negative influences so that we may have a healthy and fulfilling life? You have to note the following:

§  The knowledge of Jesus Christ has provided the solution to several life issues. Jesus came so we could experience abundant life. If we accept to follow the footsteps of Jesus and obey His commandments, He certainly will give us the victory we deserve – His saving grace covers us. The law of the spirit of life will neutralize all rebellious spirits and bring all forces to the foot of Christ. That is the victory for those who subscribe to and believe in the saving grace of Jesus Christ. The one who follows and believes in Christ is wholly redeemed, except he moves back into sin or subscribes to his old ways. Otherwise, he remains a new creation in Jesus and an overcomer of adverse forces. Therefore, being a faithful follower of Jesus gives you a lifelong testimony of victory against hostile forces and generational curses.

§  Laying hands and spiritual baths are half measures. To be wholly saved, everyone must subscribe to the overriding law of the spirit of life. This law brings forth a regular dose of the life, light and love of God upon our lives!

Today’s word says that “The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made you free from the law of sin and death”. As a true believer in Christ, you have already been saved from curses and adverse, hostile forces. All you need do is to grow in your faith. As you proceed on your spiritual journey, no going back to your old ways; Avoid sin and ungodly behaviour. Also, remember to bury fear; Do not be afraid of the devil, but hold firmly to Jesus, and all shall be well with you.

 PRAYER

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, take hold of my arm and let your Divine Spirit make way for me today. I decree that all my needs shall be established because the law of the spirit of life has set me free from curses and opposing forces. Thank you, Jesus, for your saving grace.
