WALKING IN THE LIGHT OF GOD (PART 1 OF 2)

1th1 OCTOBER 2021

“If we say we have fellowship with him and yet keep on walking in the darkness, we are lying and not practising the truth. But if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin” –   1 John 1:6-7

If we walk in the light of God, then the blood of Jesus cleanses us from every unrighteousness. To walk in the light of God is to follow the footsteps of our Lord and saviour, Jesus Christ. That implies a deliberate attitude to forsake sin and iniquity. Sin and corruption prevent the grace of God from working for us. Perhaps, this is what Henry Ford, one of the greatest industrialists and Entrepreneurs of our time, tries to say in his famous statement; “Those who walk with God always reach their destination.”

Indeed, we experience colossal darkness in our life when we aren’t truthful in our relationship with God.  You will discover your spiritual deficiency when you probe deeper and deeper into your life. There are so many things that continue to destroy the light of God around us, which put us in a state of perpetual darkness; these include jealousy, envy, pride, arrogance, insincerity, hatred, wickedness, unforgiveness, idolatry, pettiness, stubbornness, hatred, injustice, disobedience, lack of Faith and many other forms of unrighteousness too numerous to count.

Some people are stagnant, deluded, and unable to achieve their desires due to the presence of some of the spiritual lapses highlighted above. These lapses account for our inability to realize our full potentials, for they are stumbling blocks to the manifestation of God’s power in our lives. At times, we deny their existence in our lives, thereby lying to ourselves. For instance, some people go about with a load of hatred and unforgiveness in their hearts, yet some continue to be envious and jealous of God’s gift in the life of others. It is time to turn away from the dark path by embracing the way of light provided by Jesus Christ.

To follow and walk in the light of Christ is to make deliberate efforts to turn away from sins and consciously determine to imitate Christ and glorify Him in every way. In this evil generation, the only way we can survive is to make efforts to walk in the light of Christ. Follow Jesus and make Him your best friend. See Him as your hero or character model and make efforts to imitate Him.

This is the crust of today’s word for you; make efforts, starting from today, to follow the path of light which leads to a final destination in Christ Jesus. That is a destination that brings hope, Faith, fulfilment and the loving-kindness of our God.

 PRAYER

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I resolve to walk with you from today and to do only that which is pleasing in your sight. Lord, I decree nothing shall derail me henceforth from obedience to your commands and total submission by Faith. Therefore, I bear your testimony all the days of my life. AMEN
