TIME MANAGEMENT FOR GROWTH AND HAPPINESS (PART 1)

May 20th 2018

“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.” - Ephesians 5:15-16

It was Dandemis, an Indian sage and a contemporary of Alexander the Great who once wrote:
“Do not defer till the evening what the morning may accomplish; for idleness is the parent of want. Do not be slothful lest you become a burden to yourself. Do not loiter about, lest the hours hang heavy on your hands through not knowing what to do. Do not let your days pass away like the shadow of a cloud which leaves behind it no trace for remembrance”.
Today’s scriptures fall in square with the above statement, and even goes further to state the reason we must gain effective use or command of the resources of time. According to the scripture, we must make good use of our time because the days are evil. It’s true; the days are evil, considering the various distractions in our world today; hence we are constantly reminded that, “Procrastination is the thief of time”. Time is a resource just like money or any other material or human resources. Everything that we do in life is hinged on TIME. This is because on earth, we are simply humans and not spirit. One of the chief reasons we hardly ever meet targets or become happy in life is due to our inability to manage the resources of TIME proficiently. There is time for everything under the sun, therefore, we must sow and cultivate in due season.

The time for planting is when we must take action, make exploits and do a lot of follow up. It’s a time for building bridges, reaching out to others for partnership and profitable ventures. A time for harvest is different; for this is when we must spend time to gather into barns, and store for future use. There is of course, a time for rest and to enjoy the fruits of your labour. Therefore, you cannot rest during sowing time, otherwise, you will have nothing to harvest during harvest time. Starting from today, always review your everyday activities and try to evaluate your performance; your guiding slogan should be; “how far have I gone in realizing my set objectives today? Or, “what exactly have I achieved in my life, to justify the time I have wasted today”? If you like, take a pen and put down what you did for the day, so you can properly evaluate yourself. When you do a self-assessment like this, you will realize that you may just have played and gossiped away your time, engaged in relaxation, merriment or idleness. If you do not see the urgency in doing something in good time, or if you are simply carried away playing around, sleeping away, getting distracted and gossiping about others, then something is fundamentally wrong, and you must quickly examine yourself and fall in line by making profitable use of your time. On the other hand, if you have genuinely worked and no result yet, then, don't give up on the pursuit of your goals! Make adjustments, learn from your mistakes, and begin the next day with fresh enthusiasm and courage. God bless you!

Prayer
Father in the name of Jesus Christ, today, I seek your guidance and wisdom on how to manage my time in a more profitable manner so as to serve your glory and to uplift the life of others. Lord, give me the strength to overcome every distraction that tends to steal my time away. I declare success each day, and I remain focused in the use of my talents and opportunities. AMEN.
