“Then they said to Him, "Lord, always give us this bread." Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; he who comes to me will not hunger, and he who believes in me will never thirst – John 6:34-35
So many things happen to us when we do not allow the word of God to grow and flourish in us. We may likely experience one, or all of the following situations: 1) we cannot respond or assimilate spiritual thoughts and discipline. 2) We are unable to pray and follow any form of spiritual exercise, such as fasting and prayers. The effect of this is that such a person is not able to live a healthy, and a fulfilled life. The spirit becomes lethargic or sluggish due to lack or insufficient spiritual foods. Just as we need the physical foods for the body, so we need the spiritual foods for the spirit. The food of the spirit is Christ – THE ETERNAL WORD OF GOD. He is the spiritual bread which nourishes our spirit, strengthens it and makes it capable of withstanding any form of problem or challenges.
The word of God is telling us today to look unto Jesus – the one who quenches our inner thirst and fills our inner hunger. In other to have Jesus fill our inner hunger, we must do the following: read the written word of God regularly; take part in spiritual exercises such as fasting, prayers and meditations; pray regularly and listen to God talk to you; Believe in God, and also believe in Jesus and his saving grace; Try to move in faith by trusting God in smaller things of life. When we are filled, we flow with God, and we are able to see through the eyes of God all the time. When we see through the eyes of God, we are able to see things ahead before they happen; we are able to put a check to physical infirmities and weaknesses; when we call God, He answers us in good time, and we are truly given a new life in Christ Jesus. Starting from today, establish a new relationship with Jesus Christ and ask that he truly fills you up with the WORD of God.
