Then they said to Him, “Lord, always give us this bread.” Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to me will not hunger, and he who believes in me will never thirst – John 6:34-35
When we are not rooted in the word, we experience a downward trend such as:
1. Inability to respond or assimilate spiritual thoughts and discipline.
2. Inability to pray and follow any spiritual exercise, such as fasting and prayers.
The effect of the above lapse is that the person affected is unable to live a healthy and fulfilled life. The spirit becomes lethargic or sluggish due to lack or insufficient spiritual foods. Just as we need physical foods for the body, we need spiritual foods for the soul. The food of the soul is Christ – THE ETERNAL WORD OF GOD. He is the spiritual bread that nourishes our spirit, strengthens us and makes us capable of withstanding any form of problem or challenge.
The word of God is telling us today to look unto Jesus – the one who quenches our inner thirst and fills our inner hunger. In other to have Jesus fill our inner longing, we must do the following:
1. Read the scripture regularly.
2. Take part in spiritual exercises such as fasting, prayers and meditations;
3. Pray regularly and listen to God talk to you
4. Believe in God, and also believe in Jesus and his saving grace.
5. Try to move in faith by trusting God in smaller things of life.
6. Believe in yourselves – tell yourself you can make it!
When we are filled by the spirit of the word of God, we flow with God, and we can see through God’s eyes all the time. When we see through His eyes, we can see things ahead before they happen; we can put a check to physical infirmities and weaknesses; when we call God, He answers us in good time, and we are indeed given a new life in Christ Jesus.
Starting from today, establish a new relationship with Jesus Christ and ask that he genuinely fills you up with the WORD of God.
PRAYER
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I submit to you today, and I ask that you fill me up with thy WORD. Lord, I believe in Jesus Christ, and I declare he is Lord and saviour. Therefore, I am spiritually enlightened and physically fit to withstand my infirmity and weaknesses. AMEN.
