SPIRITUALITY AND LEGACY (PART 1 OF 3)

“A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children.” – Proverbs 13:22

Many of us desire so much to leave a legacy behind for posterity, our children, and the generations yet unborn. But we usually don’t take into consideration the things that would make that plan possible. Making wealth or creating a fortune is one thing, but sustaining it through generations is yet another thing.

Legacy as it were is not limited to physical wealth such as money or properties. Legacy also includes spiritual attributes such as virtues and such other disciplinary principles relating to growth and well-being.

In the past, when we had given gifts to our children, we discover that they are unable to use the gift for a long time as expected. The gifts are either broken, shredded, or lost entirely. Even though we feel disappointed, we usually don’t avert our minds to how careless the children had been. We seem to also believe erroneously that the children would grow out of that peculiar nature. But little did we know that it takes spiritual discipline to overcome incidents of wastage.

What are the things that perpetuate a legacy, making it survive several generations? The answer is spirituality or spiritual discipline.

I like to define spirituality as a character trait that draws validation from the spirit. The spirit draws inspiration and strength from the subconscious mind, which in turn is linked to God. When the spirit is able to draw enough strength and inspiration from God through the subconscious mind, it is able to synthesize what happens in the physical toward a balanced life. Spirituality, therefore, is the ability of the individual to live a balanced life at all times.

 

Some of the qualities that define spirituality are:

·       Truthfulness

·       Tolerance

·       Being honorable

·       Ability to be fair or do justice.

·       Temperance or humility

·       Honesty

·       Fortitude

·       Morality

·       A high sense of duty and responsibility.

 For the purpose of this devotional, I like to call these spiritual qualities, Health, and spiritual principles (HSP). If you are able to build these qualities, you are automatically aligned with God, or that stream of light from God. The absence of these qualities plunges you into the realm of darkness. Therefore, we must do everything possible to immerse our consciousness in the light of God.

 Of what relevance is spirituality? Spirituality is the key that sustains abundance and legacies. What that means is that:

 

1.    Spirituality is the springboard or the gateway to abundance, prosperity, and favor. That is because your consistent spirituality unlocks the creative power of God in you, and what follows is a constant manifestation of your noble intentions, as well as God’s blessings.

2.     You require spiritual discipline or a high degree of spirituality to create wealth, and to hold wealth or any legacy.

3.     Those who hold wealth or custodians of any legacy must have the discipline and spirituality to preserve and hold them.

4.     Therefore, spiritual legacy must go with physical legacy, otherwise, the physical legacy will disintegrate or disappear.  

PRAYERS          

Father in the name of Jesus Christ, I ask for your blessings for my generations. Grant me the blessings of the heavens, blessings of the deep, and blessings of my progenitors. As you give, grant that all your gift will be preserved by your spirit.  Pour therefore your spirit upon this gift of life, and let it become a positive legacy for my generations. Thank you, father, in Jesus name, AMEN.
