“Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’” – Galatians 4:6
When a child cries out, there must be a reason. Either the child is hungry, or he is dissatisfied with certain things. A child’s cry draws attention to his immediate needs – which is either to be fed or get a redress. But the cry of the heart is not filled by rules such as the need to eat when hungry or quench our thirst. The heart cries out for the need for a relationship to be filled. The cry of every human heart is for the love and intimacy of the one who created it.
That brings us to the question of our relationship with God. Do we believe in the existence of God? Many believe in the existence of God, but sure do not have a cordial relationship with Him. That in itself has created a wide gulf between them and God. God exists, but relationally, we are distanced from Him, we erroneously see Him as unreachable. Again, we come to church service and sing hymns about how great God is, but we don’t often feel or know how close He is to us.
We know God is Lord, but we struggle to have that intimate relationship with Him as our Father. How do we develop that intimacy or harmony with God? We can only harmonize with God if we are in deep harmony with Him. Expressed differently, we begin to attune or harmonize with God when we operate on the same frequency as Him. That means we must share certain common features with God through which we are able to harmonize with Him.
The word of God today says, “because you are sons of God, then you have received the spirit of God which cries Abba Father”! What that means is that you must become one with God in spirit!
To become one with God, you must be born by the spirit of God and you must experience a total transformation of mind, spirit, and body. It means that, side by side with Christ, there exists no difference between the two of you in terms of holiness, attitude, power, and victory! When you are born by the spirit, you become a co-heir with Jesus Christ! When that happens, you have also become THE ETERNAL WORD OF GOD, full of power and the Grace of God.
When our spirit cries Abba Father, then it means we have become one with God – this is the spiritual synergy that identifies you as a son of God. How and when does this happen? The scripture says for those who believe and accept Jesus Christ, He gives them the power to become the sons of God who are born by the spirit (NOT by the flesh). To believe in God and to accept Jesus Christ as the son of God starts with a confession of faith, followed by transformation by the Holy Spirit.
Transformation by the Holy Spirit must truly change you to become Christ in attitude and spirit! You must be truly “holy like your father in heaven”. That means you must become a true son of God who will never question God’s authority and commandments. To harmonize with God is to become one with Christ – That also means you have to do God’s will all the time by following the footsteps of Jesus Christ.
Finally, to cry Abba Father, IS TO BECOME ONE WITH GOD AND TO SEE GOD IN ALL THINGS AROUND YOU! What that further translates to is that you must see God in all persons irrespective of their religion, language, culture or way of life.
Today, I want you to ask yourself one basic question; “Can I give love freely to everyone outside my comfort zone”? Or maybe I should ask you these questions instead; Has your spirit flowed into the Spirit of God in such a way that your Spirit cries ABBA Father in recognition of the fact that you are one with God? Can you feel the power of God flowing in and out of you in such a way that you are moved to doing greater things for God’s kingdom, NOT SERVING YOUR APPETITE OR EGO? If not, then you must pray and ask God for an answer and proper guardians. Understanding God and becoming one with Christ comes with the power and authority of the son of God. It comes also with obedience to God’s commandments.
PRAYER
Father in the name of Jesus Christ, I thank you for your word today. The scripture says for as many as are led by the spirit are called the sons of God. Therefore, I declare I am filled by your spirit today. By thy grace, I have started to bear the fruits of the spirit. Lord, thank you for your power flowing through me right now. AMEN.
