“This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live “- Deuteronomy 30:19
Our previous decisions are the reasons for our present status in life; or better still, our choices in life determines what happens to us next. As humans, we cannot always be right in the decisions we take. This is because 99.9% of the time, we take decisions based on sentiment, depending on the issue or on who is involved. Therefore, our life is the sum of all our choices. Yet there is a dividing line. Today, the word of God tells us that, we each can choose to walk in life or death. The kind of people we are is determined by the ultimate choice we make. Several centuries ago, humanity was led astray due to their choice to disobey God, and to follow the alluring pleasure offered by the devil. The penalty for that was suffering and death for the entire human race. But thank God for Jesus Christ who did not only remove the penalty of our disobedience, but also opened the door to a holy connection with God through Christ. Today, we are connected to God in a special way so much that we find a ready medicine for our moral and spiritual weaknesses. Jesus remains the medicine or the healing balm which heals all our infirmities and brings us to a glorious fulfillment of God’s eternal plan and purpose for humanity. Jesus says He has come that we may have life and to experience it more abundantly.
Unfortunately, not many have accepted Jesus and His new life. Instead, they have chosen to walk in darkness, thereby neglecting the light and the path that leads to God through Jesus Christ. For those people, their hearts and deeds are consumed by an inner drive for selfishness, vengeance, insincerity, stubbornness, unforgiving, lust, jealousy, envy and negative passion. All these vices are the characteristics of evil which dominate the life of those who choose death offered by the devil, as against the life of abundance given by Jesus Christ. Furthermore, some crave for power and influence, not to serve the glory of God, but to show off or display an acquisition syndrome of, “Yes I have it now”. This gives nothing to them other than spiritual stagnation. I have also seen others who crave for all manner of pleasure, which goes against right thinking and healthy lifestyle. When we are considering which way to go in life, please remember that the path to hell is rooted in our selfish ambition to live our lives as we pleased. Beloved, starting from today, take a critical evaluation of the decisions you had made prior to this time, leading to your present situation. Are your decisions firmly rooted in Christ as revealed from the heart of God? Have you been forging or advancing your own agenda, formulated from poor judgment? Instead of banging on the table, and saying, “that is my final decision”, say instead, “Lord Jesus, I need you to lead the way…”
