Today’s Scriptures: “Give and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full--pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back." – Luke 6:38
We have spent so much time trying to rationalize on the importance of giving. While some people hate to give, others find giving a spiritual exercise to unlock the heart of nature and that of God in order to receive God’s benevolence. Again, for some, giving is a spiritual exercise for the Lenten season, yet, for others, giving should be done daily, notwithstanding the spiritual occasion. You may not understand the importance of giving until you make giving a habit. Those who give regularly, have positive testimonies about God’s blessing in their life. Although giving is not restricted to money or material things, whatever you give, will determine what you get back from God. Therefore, you have to be mindful of what you give! We do not get depleted when we give, rather we receive more than we have given; It’s a kind of seed sowing mechanism. You plant by giving, then you receive during the harvest time. Therefore, if you plant pepper, you get pepper NOT cassava! Beloved, be wise in your giving.
Furthermore, give without publicity. Also, give without grudges. Please note very well that your intention for giving is often judged by God. Therefore, do not let a selfish motive rule your giving! Such giving may not be rewarded. Give only because you want to help the weak to become strong; the sick to be healed and the hungry to become filled. The word of God is telling you today to make giving a part of your life in order to receive bountifully from God. Through giving, you receive from God. To give to the needy is to sow in God’s vine yard. At harvest time, you reap for yourself here on earth, while the rest is stored for you in heaven. Bless others today with your kind words, community service, donations, sharing food and other basic things.
Father in the name of Jesus Christ, today I receive strength to give willingly and cheerfully to others. Behold, I have become a source of blessing to others in my community and my generation at large. All I give shall bring joy and hope to all. As a source, I shall never run dry of provisions. I declare my life is firmly planted in your limitless Grace and abundance. AMEN
