“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” - John 16:33
Being a Christian does not mean you won’t face the battles of life, it only means that as a Christian, you are provided with the legal authority and a certificate of victory that states that the devil has no power over you anymore, because Jesus fought the battles already on your behalf, and had in fact defeated the devil on your behalf. Therefore, you are free and free indeed! How then do we claim this certificate of victory? Every baptized Christian, who has accepted Christ as Lord and savior and truly believes in the finished work of Jesus on the cross, is given the certificate. During the days of trouble, simply show your certificate of discharge to the devil, and that is it! Unfortunately, some are unable to flaunt their certificates of discharge to the devil, and that has been a major problem. The reason for that is due to fear and ignorance regarding the power and authority they possess in Christ over the devil. With your certificate of discharge, everything about the devil becomes a mere illusion. But despite this fact, so many are still under the clutch of the devil. That is because they are either unable to show that the devil has no power over them anymore, or a have again crashed into the amorous open hands of the devil due to lusts, greed and other sinful dispositions. Unfortunately, the devil does not come to us with a name tag on him in such a way that we could recognize him.
He comes to us like the serpent came to Eve in the Garden of Eden, with a simple question that causes us to doubt God’s goodness. He disguises himself like an angel of light with an attitude of tolerance, encouraging us to break God’s commandments and to take to the path of immorality and disobedience to Christ commands. In fact, the devil tells you that all your sins have become sanctified, and pleasing to God. That is a LIE and a huge joke! He is saying that in order to destroy you and your destiny. Be very careful! In order not to fall prey to the evil machinations of the devil, the scriptures enjoins you to stand firm and strong at all times as if in a battle by doing the following: fasten on the belt of truth, put on the breastplate of righteousness, wear the shoes of the readiness given by the gospel of peace, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one” (Ephesians 6:12-18). Beloved, Jesus is reminding you today that although the devil will try to harm you, you must never be afraid of him because He (Jesus) had already conquered the world! For this reason He was manifested so as to destroy every works of the devil. Every works of the devil is already destroyed for your sake. Do not bring back the devil into your life through your sinful dispositions.
