STOP COMPLAINING!

3rd JUNE 2022

“Do everything without complaining or arguing so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life.” – Philippians 2:14,15

One of the biggest giants militating against our progress in life is complaining about every circumstance. Why do we complain so much? One primary reason people complain is that they are bitter. Therefore, bitterness is the root cause of complaining.

When we are bitter about some injustice done to us or others, we could be right. But when we are habitually venting anger or bitterness in virtually every circumstance, we are complaining.

Complaining works against us in many ways. One sure negative profile of complaining is that it lowers you in the estimation of the right-thinking people around you. Those who cannot execute a task without complaining cannot undertake any profitable venture successfully. They carry a negative aura which is a by-product of the bitterness they bear in their hearts. The anger and hatred they emit when they complain remain in the aura, and that also repels any positive gain in their lives. Stop grumbling today; grumbling is a sin for the mere fact that God says don’t grumble or complain!

A person who constantly complains is never satisfied and finds fault with everybody around as well as everything he does. People who continuously complain can alienate those around them and harm their own mental health. Complaining rewires your brain for negativity, pessimism, and unhappiness. The human brain loves familiarity and efficiency- so what you feed your brain with will settle for it and seek more of it. In other words, the more you complain, the more you make this the default mode of your brain’s operation.

How do you know you are complaining? People around you will tell you so, and you will also see yourself in perpetual bitterness. Complaining is a selfish profile, especially when it relates to personal gains as against fighting the course of justice.

How do you overcome complaining to attract favour and positive gains to your life? One step out of bitterness is to cultivate a heart of gratitude. Gratitude activates dopamine in the brain and creates the conditions for optimism, says, psychologists. Rather than complain, see the positive side of the issue concerned no matter how small it is. After that, step back and look at the big picture with gratitude.

PRAYER

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, grant me the spirit of gratitude and to appreciate your unquenchable love for me. Obliterate every bitterness in my heart, and cause me to see the big picture on every circumstance confronting me. AMEN.
