“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” – Exodus 14:14
William Penn, an influential English religion preacher and the founder of the North American state of Pennsylvania in 1682 said;
“In the rush and noise of life, as you have intervals, step home within yourselves and be still. Wait upon God, and feel His good presence; this will carry you evenly through your day’s business.”
In today’s Scripture, we see God’s word validating what William Penn said several years ago.
Why do we have to be calm or listen to God talk to us, anyway? It is because God’s word is spirit and life. It heals every wound and goes through every barrier to bring succour and healing. To be still and to listen to God, especially when we are in pain or troubled, is a difficult process though; but we have to learn to look beyond our pain and sorrow and focus on God just for one minute, at least. Only then would we begin to experience a supernatural shift from pain and trauma to a state of peace and fulfilment.
While I acknowledged that some bad situations might not be reversed, such as bereavement, nevertheless, we deserve freedom from emotional pain and trauma so we can live our normal life again. Only God can set us free at that point. You will observe that in certain cases, we seem to experience prolonged emotional stress and troubles, even over time; that is one of the devil’s tricks to ensure that we do not return to normal life. However, the mystery of God is that His spirit is capable of working in us to heal our pain no matter the degree of our losses, but we must be still to enable Him to fight for us and administer His healing balm on us.
Instead of listening to the noise of your worries, illness or disease, starting today, listen to the voice of the Lord in the silence of your heart. We should not let our sorrow overwhelm us; otherwise, we might sink into depression. One of the significant causes of depression is our inability to control emotions in times of pain and sorrow. The good news is that Christ in us is the hope of glory and can always perfect everything concerning us.
Jesus Christ has demonstrated His powers over storms by calming the sea for Peter to walk on the storming sea waves (Matthew 14:22 – 33). Jesus Christ remains the same. Our God remains loyal, omnipotent, faithful and loving. Allow Jesus to minister to your pains, troubles and sorrows; be still, and stop paying attention to the storm. Otherwise, you may sink just like Peter did.
God is telling you today that He is always in control of every of your problem but would only start the work of healing and restoration only if you appreciate His presence, remain calm and still to receive His healing. Remember, God’s word is spirit and life. Just focus on God and believe He would set you free.
PRAYER
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I open my heart to receive your word today. Minister to me, and heal my wounds. AMEN
