“Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 1.7)
Like these two disciples on the way to Emmaus, there is no doubt that we are equally slow in understanding the scripture. Our understanding, in most cases, is based on the popular interpretation, which only explains these mysteries halfway. The Holy Spirit is the revealer of Christ and the interpreter of the scripture, and we must call on Him regularly for a first-class interpretation of the scriptures.
Our Faith is strengthened when we expose our minds to the daily reading of the scriptures as well as through meeting Jesus in Holy Communion. You will recall that, at first, the two Disciples in Emmaus did not recognize Jesus. Jesus first prepared their minds for this revelation by teaching them what the scripture says about the Messiah and then opened their eyes during bread breaking.
The confusion and problem with these Disciples started from their lack of understanding of the scriptures on why Jesus had to die. They could not understand why their powerful Master went through brutal murder. They felt disillusioned, lonely and afraid by the exit of the Master from the world. Jesus did not just take their confusion problems away; He first taught them what the scripture says regarding why the Messiah had to die, and thereafter, opened their eyes to recognize Him during the breaking of bread. In practical terms, the Disciples realized that the scriptures were actually being fulfilled in all the events.
We are also expected to perfect our salvation by faith through an understanding of the scriptures and regular partaking of Christ in the Holy Communion. Therefore, the power to a successful Christian life lies in our understanding of the SCRIPTURE AND regularly meeting Jesus in HOLY COMMUNION. Our risen Lord meets us in the scripture and His holy supper. In these two, He takes hold of us, He speaks to us, and He strengthens our faith which we need the most. In Hebrews 11:6. The Scripture says, “And without faith, it is impossible to please God because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” The grace of God and the new life that comes after the resurrection will become strengthened as our faith in the Lord grows through the understanding of His word. Also, as we take regular part in the Lord’s holy feast, Jesus assures us that He is involved in our lives and will definitely order all things pertaining to us in a manner that glorifies His name.
PRAYER
Father in the name of Jesus Christ, thank you for Grace and the Faith to live to perfect the works of salvation in my life. I recognize that Jesus is with me in everything I do and wherever I go. Therefore, by the power of the Holy Spirit, I share the testimony of the risen Christ as the one who holds my future, the one who perfects my salvation through His word and His Holy Super. Thank you, Father, for deliverance, for I am indeed free by His blood. AMEN
