Introduction

The family is the nucleus of society, and we mean that society is formed by various or multiple family units. In terms of how good it is, the strength of the society depends on the strength or weakness of the different family units that make up the country or society.

Our theme for this family retreat is, THE BODY CHRIST.

What do you understand as the body of Christ? (Please attempt a response in your heart)

The Body of Christ – As with the body of Christ, the family is one unit that is made up of multiple members that each do their own part.  (This is the ideal time to discuss or identify the roles that we are each playing in our family. Ask yourself, what role are you playing in the family?

Bible Verse – Romans 12:4-5 “For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.”

Having identified what your roles are within the family, can each member say they are making enough sacrifice and contribution to keep the family healthy and running?

Note: That just like the body of Christ must be well managed with various gifts and spirit to serve the body, so are we individually expected to perform roles borne out of sacrifice and love for one another to keep our family strong and healthy. Ask yourselves again, “Am I doing enough for my family”? Do not be shy or ashamed to answer this question the right way.

How then do we build an incredibly excellent family?

Note the following key elements in building an excellent family:

·        Love – forgiveness and tolerance

·        Team Spirit

·        Edifying one another

·        Sharing the good things of life/eating together

·        Praying, together in fellowship, and partaking of holy communion together as family.

·        Sacrifice and bearing each other’s burden

·        Secret service/family offering
