“Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it. For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it” - Matthew 7:13-14

Today, Nigerians are heading for the polls to elect their leaders who will take charge of the affairs of their country for the next four years. It is a very difficult moment for those in Nigeria because making a good choice has never been easy! In moments like this, it is very important to saturate our decisions in prayer so we can get the Holy Spirit’s approval to our choices since He sees the hearts of men and can warn us if we are leaning in the wrong direction in our decisions. We must remember we are not voting for perfect people, but certainly, some people are better than others and the Holy Spirit can give us spiritual insight as to who these men and women might be. Candidates can fool people by their persuasive rhetoric, but they cannot fool God and if we stay close to God today, He will guide us in the best choice for each of the offices. Remember, “by their fruits, ye shall know them.” Do not let a group action affect your choices; one very big tragedy in life is to be persuaded or dissuaded by group opinion, especially in matters where your destiny and that of millions of others will be greatly affected. Hold your grounds if you believe you are right in the choices that you have made. It does not matter whether anyone else believes in your opinion or not, provided your decision is based on love, justice, and equity. For today and in all other days of your life, you must hold your ground all to the glory of God, and not to please anyone. You simply would do what is right for yourself and for your country. Remember beloved, there are two basic reasons you must hold your grounds always: ONE - In order to make our world a better place. Our world today is going through turbulence, partly due to the inability of the majority to uphold truth, justice, and righteousness. If more people embrace love, justice, and equity, darkness and evil will disappear. TWO – In order to take a leap of faith. At times, we are unable to dare into any venture just because the majority thinks we are crazy. You cannot determine the success of a venture before you have started.

Therefore, I tell you today that your choice of leaders must be done along the path of justice, equity, and righteousness. God is telling you to uphold justice, love, and righteousness at all times and never to do otherwise because somebody else disagrees with you. Very often, people come together in support of a candidate for election not because he or she is good, but because everybody is supporting them. Your choice must roll down justice like waters, and righteousness like overflowing stream.

Prayer
Father in the name of Jesus Christ, I dissociate myself today from every bad crowd that goes away from the path of justice, righteousness, equity and fair play. Lord, today I choose to do all things for thy glory. Father, I declare no one shall look down upon me, or contaminate my thoughts and actions. I sanctify my speech, behavior, and action today. Amen
