‘To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said’, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” - John 8:31-32
Today, we continue our reading on why we must have faith in the word of God in the scriptures. For as long as we live, arguments and debates about God and His word will continue. But one thing is very certain; the truth will set you free from mental slavery and evil the devices of men and demons. Jesus preached a message of deliverance, and except His UNDILUTED message is very clear to you, you are yet to be delivered indeed! My mission is to bring you face to face in agreement with the spirit and life of the word of God. The good news is that the grace of God is always there to refocus us along the path of right belief, when we derail, provided that we are ready to take the word of God to a higher dimension, where the word can simply condition our mind to accept the word as the truth about God and life generally. Only at that point can we truly experience deliverance. For instance, Jesus made a walloping statement in John 8:34 thus, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin.” But He quickly says in verse 36, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed”.
To be a slave to sin is to remain in perpetual bondage. However, to be delivered from sin is to accept the truth contained in the Master’s teachings and apply same to your life. Addressing those who agreed to follow Him, Jesus says to them, ‘If you hold to my teachings, you are really my disciples’” (John 8:31). Now I want you to take note that true discipleship does not come from classroom learning, or laying of hands on anyone, rather, you must TRULY believe in Jesus, and be prepared to do as He says and commanded. This is a personal decision you must take at some points in the journey of life! Today’s scripture reminds us that those who are “REAL” followers of Christ will “hold to” His teachings. That means they will not only accept His teachings as truth, but they will also obey His teachings and do as He says. It is only when we accept the truth contained in His teachings can we truly access His spirit and life. James says; action is proof of faith! (James 2:17). It is my prayer today that the Holy Spirit will guide you into a revelation of the higher knowledge and truth about Christ who is a manifestation of the word of God. He is also the light and the life of God!
