THE IMPORTANCE OF SELF-DISCIPLINE – CULTIVATING GODLY HABITS

Reflection:

Ever struggle to live by your faith, even though you talk a good game? Just like a wild horse needs training, we all need self-control (like Paul mentions in 1 Corinthians 9:27) to truly follow God’s plan. It’s not punishment, but a way to become the best version of ourselves.

Imagine this: No one’s watching. Would your choices still reflect your values? Be honest! This self-reflection is where we grow. Godly habits are like a gentle trainer for that wild horse within. Regularly reading the Bible strengthens our faith. Disciplined prayer becomes a real conversation with God, not just empty words. And taking care of our bodies, God’s temples, honours Him in everything we do.

WHAT NEXT?
Identify areas where you need to grow in self-discipline. Set realistic goals and create a plan to achieve them. Seek support from an accountability partner or faith-based group.

POWERFUL PRAYER POINT:
“Lord, give me the strength and discipline to develop habits that honour You. Help me overcome laziness and procrastination and use my time wisely to grow closer to You. Amen.”

Additional Verses:

  • Proverbs 22:6 – “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it.”
  • Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
  • Titus 2:2 – “Older men are to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, sound in faith, love and perseverance.”
