“This is what the Lord says: Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. (Jeremiah. 6:16)

Some of the things you may have to do when you find yourself on a crossroad as discussed in our devotional for Monday 11^th May 2021 are:

1. Stand, look and ask questions. During this period, you have to do the following: (a) believe that God has a master plan for you; that aspect was discussed in our devotional for Monday 10^th May 2021. Now, we continue.

(b) Seek Guidance from the word of God and from Good Sources!

During this period, you have to study the Scriptures, and be consistent in your prayer. Consult widely with your priests, pastors and friends in the spirit. Tell them about your worries, seek their opinion and request them to pray with you as well. Do not lean on your own understanding alone. (Ref: Prov. 3:5 & 6). During this period, you have to be consistent with fasting and prayers. These two are good spiritual exercises that also purify the body and mind. They open your inner eyes to see what lies ahead of you (Ref: Phil. 4:6 & 7)

(c.) Step Out in Faith: The scripture tells us, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for; the conviction of things not seen” (Heb. 11:1). To exercise faith means we must be fearless and believe that God hears prayer and will actualize His promises in our lives no matter what problems we face. To have faith is a difficult process, but we can subject our faithlessness to prayers and ask God to help our unbelief. When we fast and pray, it is not likely we would hear God or know exactly what step to take, but definitely, we would experience a peace of mind which says to us – GOD IS IN CONTROL, FEAR NOT. At that point, step out in faith regardless of your fears; God will order your steps thenceforth, and every step taken will bring you closer to God’s fulfilment (Ref: Prov. 16:9)

2 Ask for the ancient paths

God says, “Ask for the ancient paths” (Jeremiah 6:16). The old path is the path of sacrifice and obedience to God’s command; the ancient path is Abraham’s way – the path of obedience to God’s command with faith that God will fulfil His promise no matter the situation. The scripture says you must listen for the sound of the ram’s horn – The ram of sacrifice. (Jeremiah 6:17). When God is leading us somewhere, we must be ready to follow Him and do what He says without complaining – Just like Abraham did. The ancient path is also Jesus Christ way. Jesus is the word of God in the flesh. In strict obedience to God, Jesus offered Himself as a sacrifice for the sins of the world. All these things were already in the mind of God “foreknown before the foundation of the world” (1Peter 1:17-20).

3 Walk in the good ancient paths.

When God speaks of “the good way” and tells us to “walk therein.” (Jeremiah 6:16), He means that we should actually be doers of the word of God and not just hearers. Jesus says, “I AM THE WAY”! Many Christians do not believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Many of them regard the gospel as having little relevance to life. This is a form of ignorance. Paul says that they “walk in the futility of their own mind, having their understanding darkened, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them” (Ephesians 4:17-18).

Beloved, when you are at the crossroads, do as stated in this devotional series for Monday and Wednesday, you are sure to see the light of God at the end of the tunnel.

PRAYER

Father in the name of Jesus Christ, I seek your perfect will right now and the way forward in my life. Give me the word of grace and hope that I may find my way to fulfilment. Lord, you are the unseen eyes that pierce through the nights. Give me light to see. Father, you are the mighty hands in battle, deliver me from known and unknown forces that seek to pull me down. Thank you, father, for I am delivered, safe and sound at the destination you have prepared for me. Glory to your name. AMEN.
